Mainframe Operating System
AFS uses Z/OS on its newer Z9 mainframe. Z/OS is the latest incarnation of IBM’s flagship OS/390 operating system, designed to resilient and self-adjusting, thereby eliminating the need to restart the mainframe to make configuration changes. The Z/OS is designed to run continuously 24/7 without interruption. The only time AFS restart the system is during the scheduled six monthly maintenance windows.
